From their succesful USA tour, the band have released this live double cd featuring tracks from all three previous studio releases. The songs and the musicianship on this are of the highest quality and as those of you have have seen the band live will know, it captures them perfectly, performing their own brand of modern progressive rock music.
The opening epic 'Wintercoast' with its intro spoken by Jeremy Irons (wouldn't it be great at some time to have him do that live), is the perfect start to the show. To me this song has everything that I love about the band, great vocals, superb guitar and keyboards, wonderful bass line and quality drumming from the now departed Al Melville. 'Shadow' features a sublime bassline from Moo in this uptempo song. The shared vocals of Kim and Rob are perfectly highlighted in 'The Mad Hatter's Song' from the original EP release.
Kim's vocals are pushed to the fore in glorious fashion with 'Original Sin' and 'Voices' with the solo vocal of 'Solace' show her range and confidence. 'Blacktide' has Adam showing his guitar prowess with a blinding solo that is a highlight for me. But the music is all about the five members of it and they way they all contribute on all songs especially the anthemic 'Discordant Dreams' and 'Line In The Sand'.
The set finishes with the almost pop sounding 'Strange Days' a great live number that really deserved more radio play on its release last year.
John Mitchell of It Bites fame joins the band onstage for a riotous version of the Tears For Fears classic 'Mad World'
All in all this is a mighty fine greatest hits live package put together from the band, showing their skill of great songwriting and performing. I am expecting bigger and better in the future. Being a huge fan of Touchstone I know how good this band is onstage and this cd release highlights that fact even more for me, I just hope it does for you!!!
