Guitar and vocal powerhouse Philip Sayce calls his new album STEAMROLLER and that's the perfect title. It will be released through Provogue Records on 27th February 2012.
One of the best live guitarists on the planet, the Welsh born, Toronto raised and currently residing in LA, musician has started to carve himself out a loyal fanbase in the UK. Following stints playing guitar with Melissa Etheridge and Uncle Kracker, Sayce is now widely regarded as one of the best in the business when it comes to blues, rock, and funk crossover.
This is Sayce's fourth release for Provogue and it is a rock 'n' blues joyride, a heavyweight sonic and emotional juggernaut fuelled by Philip's unstoppable talent. From the moment the title tracks colossal riff kick-starts the cd until the wall of feedback that diminishes the soaring instrumental ‘Aberystwyth’ concludes the set list. In-between we have songs of great diversity, with a range of influences on show from the likes of Hendrix, Kravitz and Prince.
'Stung By A Woman’ is the perfect foil for ‘Steamroller’ giving out the funk with some killer guitar. ‘Black Train’, ‘Rhythm And Truth’, ‘A Mystic’ and ‘The Bull’(literally an animal of a track), are all an assault on the aural senses with crashing drums, thunderous bass and screaming guitars , all excellent on their individual standing.
On the more restrained side we have some terrific melodic music with ‘Holding On’, ‘Beautiful’ and my personal cd favourite ‘Marigold’ which has already become my benchmark song for 2012, exquisite guitar playing , great harmonies with some wonderfully textured keyboards, a truly magnificent song.
This is Philip’s best studio work, he seems more confident with his vocals on this offering, the guitar is his usual top quality and the bass and drums are up another level as well. One of the cd’s of 2012 and a must for any fan of the blues-rock genre.
Philip Sayce - Steamroller released end of February 2012. blistering music, he has nailed it down on this cd Already being touted as 'one to watch' for 2012, Philip will be touring the UK to promote STEAMROLLER.
