Legendary guitarist and Mountain founder Leslie West releases his brand new solo album entitled ‘Unusual Suspects’ on Provogue Records.
Unusual Suspects features Leslie West alongside a hand-picked line-up of the finest guitar players alive today including Slash, blues-rock guitar superstar Joe Bonamassa, Black Label Society front man and ex Ozzy guitarist Zack Wylde, ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons and Toto’s Steve Lukather.
Slash appears on two tracks here, ‘Mudflap Mama' is a lowdown gritty riffing tune with West and Slash both serving up some great guitar, the other track ‘Turn Out The Lights' features Slash, West and Wylde with yet another gem of a track.
‘One More Drink For The Road’ is a brilliant cd opener featuring Lukather, after a piano stomping intro the rest of the band pound the song with some great drumming, bass and of course guitars. Billy Gibbons appears on ‘Standing On A Higher Ground', this track is near Gibbons/West perfection, you will play this one over and over again.
Joe Bonamassa for me on the track ‘Third Degree’ possibly gives his best single track collaboration on it. Quite superb and masterful from both exemplary guitarists.
Zack Wylde gives us yet another treat with ‘Nothing’s Changed', another awesome riff that I’m sure will be covered very soon, and it’s too good for one cd alone.
Leslie also gives us his own bands work on a few songs, the slower paced ‘Legend’ and ‘You & Me’ give a different West musical perspective, while ‘To The Moon’ shows all that is great about the man.
This is a cd for guitarists of all standards, showing why West is considered by his legion of fans and musicians alike to one of the living greats
