As I sit outside in the morning sunshine contemplating life and this warm cup of tea in my hands, I have Stuarts second cd 'House Of Sun' beautifully accompanying me.
Nine tracks of of accessible, original songwriting, based in the main in acoustic sounds with textures of slide guitar, bass, piano and violin to add richness to the sound, Stuart isn't your ordinary singer/songwriter, the nearest comparison I can make is the sound of Starsailor, but still keeping his songs original and unique.
Ease back into the chair as the acoustic guitar and piano intro of 'Legacy' gently flows over you before Stuarts vocals take you away on a journey of contemplation. 'House of Sun' starts with a long intro featuring some bass and keyboards, before the violin and vocals kick in with a song you think is going in a predictable direction, but this song is far from that. Stuart singing in a higher key above that of the violin playing a melody beneath sounding like two songs playing at once but it works extremely well and proves to be a cd highlight for me.
'Easy Sky' is a more contempoary track with an acoustic groove and great singing from Stuart , I think this song will be live favourite, espescially with the slide guitar in the background with keyboards vying for attention. Close your eyes and go on the journey with him singing of deserts in the evening. 'The Only One Left' is a one minute acoustic instrumental that eases into 'Angels And Devils' a song similar in feel to the previous 'Easy Sky' another wonderfully gentle but yet powerful song with some military style snare-drumming at the end of it.
Back to the beautiful slide guitar again with the glorious 'Soul And Desire' a song about wanting a chance to live the life you want. The acoustic/keyboard instrumental 'Falling Star' leads you into the next track 'Tree Of Life', this time with some wonderful choral-style vocal backing at the beginning, this reminds me a little of the experimental work of Kate Bush in her prime.
The last track is the briiliantly titled 'Left You Like Judas'a very up tempo song about drug addiction with biting lyrics about an addicts decline into oblivion.
This is a wonderfully sensitive piece of work from Stuart Anthony that makes you wanting more from him. This cd takes you on a journey sometimes safe, sometimes to a place you never thought you would go with a song. A very talented guy who has a great future ahead of him if the quality of the songs are the same, and or, better on the next cd.
