Two-Man Blues Army a feast of big riffs, killer guitar tones and searing vocals. More importantly, the record crackles with the raw, spontaneous energy of a live show, something often absent from many modern blues albums.
The cd kicks off with life the raucous appropriately-titled "Meltdown At The Hoo" bashing at your body! The whole album of killer tunes represents a definite melding of traditional blues-meets-the-21st century. The two man format with Kevin Hickman on drums, is a great combination providing crashing drum beats and rhythms to Gwyns scruff-of-the-neck Hendrix style guitar playing. This is an assault on your senses and a refreshing change from the SRV stylists about at this time. Covers 'Crossroad Blues' and 'Outside Woman Blues' have been given the distinctive Gwyn treatment. Topical song 'Junior Got A Blade' has some superb slide playing on it, while love song 'Mad Dog' just growls at you as Gwyn snarls out the lyrics. Songs 'Break', 'False Accusation' & 'One Way Ticket To The Blues' are already live favourites.
This cd is a refreshing blast of guitar and drums that shows there is more to the blues than the formulated standards we have been used to.
Go see this band live they kick you in all parts of the body.
