Here we are at the London leg of the Balls And Banners Europe Tour 2011 at a sold out Shepherd’s Bush Empire. The crowd also supporting the band tonight follow then name by being all European with different nationalities in attendance with their own countries flags on show.
Voodoo Johnson
Voodoo Johnson are the support and played a good set with the crowd giving them every encouragement and cheering throughout. Good rock sound with to my ears a hint of Seattle’s Pearl Jam in there. Check them out if you get the chance they will give you a very good night out’s entertainment.
EUROPE
The filming crews got themselves into position, house lights down, almighty roar from the crowd as the opening keyboards of ‘Prelude’ was played as the band assembled on stage to launch into ‘Last Look At Eden’. The opening salvo continued with the masterly track ‘The Beast’ and the classic ‘Rock The Night’ which had the upper levels of the Empire rocking.
We were treated to tracks from the back catalogue ‘Seventh Sign’ ‘Start From The Dark’, ‘Wake Up Call’, ‘More Than Meets The Eye’, as well as the classic tracks ‘Superstitious’ and ‘Carrie’ which had the crowd singing away with Joey. Of the new material we had the title track, ‘New Love in Town’, ‘No Stone Unturned’. The band also played a tribute to the late Gary Moore (The Loner), featuring John Norum and a great drum solo in the Cozy Powell drum along style. We were also treated to a new song called Doghouse which went down well, then it was the moment most of the crowd were waiting for ‘The Final Countdown’ which saw the venue erupt and the balcony visibly move, the song is now a part of classic rock royalty and is embraced by all by singing their hearts out.
Europe as a band have been reborn and seem to be really enjoying working together as a unit which I hope lasts a few more years to come.
The footage being recorded should hopefully be available in May 2011. Catch them on the remainder of the tour as it’s a terrific night out.
