Eleanor McEvoy’s ninth studio album ‘Alone’’, is a beautiful collection of 12 stripped-down solo tracks including the new single‘You’ll Hear Better Songs (Than This)’, ‘A Woman’s Heart’, and a unique take on P.F. Sloan’s ‘Eve Of Destruction’. Heading off to the Grange Studios in Norfolk, armed with just an electric guitar, just singing her sings stripped down to the stage setting instead of the band sound. The product of those tranquil sessions is an album of incerdibly haunting performances, up close, personal and timeless. This is Eleanor in her most intimate setting, running through the journey of her writing and singing career. The songs take on new perspectives on this recording, the haunting ‘Sophie’, with its sharp narrative on the helplessness of families dealing with one member’s eating disorders, is probably my favourite track on here. Also songs of relationships get a fresh airing‘Did I Hurt You ?’, ‘What’s Her Name’, are fine examples of Eleanor’s outlook from a woman’s perspective, with the little details being voiced that sometimes get overlooked.
The songs are all very accomplished and sung with a glorious Dublin accent that swims over the musical undercurrent, twelve of the best on here for you and me to enjoy.
