Bad Company at The Radio Theatre BBC Broadcasting House London 26th March 2010
I was fortunate enough to get a ticket for this eagerly waited event. Ever since the last time I saw Bad Company at Wembley Arena in 1979, there has been a long gap that is now being filled again by the reformation of the remaining members of the group. About 300 people are present at this venue that is being filmed for BBC i-player viewing simultaneous audio broadcast that starts on Saturday 3rd April 2010 and will be available for 7 days. No photographs were allowed to be taken so the filming had priority. The band were introduced by radio presenter Johnnie Walker and proceeded to start with a storming 'Wishing Well', a super rendition of 'Ride On Pony' was played followed by the classic Free song 'All Right Now' at which I realised the cameraman was filming my Paul Rodgers t-shirt for most of the song. Mick Ralphs came on the stage for the Bad Co part of the show. We were treated to the classics 'Feel Like Makin' Love', 'Run With The Pack', 'Shooting Star' (which had to be restarted due to the intro being done too early), 'Can't Get Enough', and a personal joy 'Electricland' Howard and Mick swapping guitar solos/rhythm to the songs, Lynn furiously thumping away on the bass and Simon being absolutely sublime in his drumming, the guy gets better with age. Paul was his usual professional self, having great fun , even walking about in the audience singing and shaking hands (mine included), proving again why he is the best in the business. Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy was played next with the now familiar line up pose towards the end of the song, the set was finished with the excellant 'Movin' On. The crowd wanted more and they got it. The band came back to play the signature tune 'Bad Company'. All through the set , the band were taking cues from each other with nods of the head and hand gestures, was exciting to see a band of musicians working so well that way. Lots of smiling faces from the lucky few who were picked from over 15,000 applicants. After the gig I managed to secure all band signatures on tickets and the new Hard Rock Live dvd. Cannot wait for the UK tour to start in April.
